Past Projects
We have extensive experience working directly with cruise lines, museums, TV programs, radio broadcasters and other media. With our maritime history expertise and cruise industry knowledge we enrich events and communications by providing historical context to underpin the significance of modern events. We've worked on many events with some of our most memorable shared below.
Cunard 100th Anniversary in Australia
In 2024 Cunard celebrated its 100th anniversary of cruising in Australia. This celebration coincided with the arrival of the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, for its 3rd Australian cruising season. We were engaged by Cunard to develop a briefing document, exploring moments of historical significance in Australia. Our work included researching significant milestones, historic and important port calls, and the impact Cunard has made on Australia. Chris was engaged to take part in the media event aboard Queen Elizabeth, talking on air with Australian TV news.
Book Launch and Australian Cruising Media
In 2024 the 2nd edition of our P&O history book was launched. To celebrate, P&O Cruises invited us onboard for a formal book launch event in Fremantle. Ahead of the event, we worked with P&O Cruises to develop a robust media and public relations plan, to tell both the story of P&O's history, and its significance to the Western Australian market. The book launch was a great success with special guests The Hon. John Day and Cr. Jenny Archibald - Deputy Mayor of Fremantle attending.
Carnival Splendor Tour - Carnival Cruise Line
With the P&O Australia brand to be absorbed into the Carnival Cruise Line fleet from 2025, Carnival invited us to tour the Australian-based Carnival Splendor. To showcase the experience with our YouTube audience, Chris completed a full tour of the newly refurbished Carnival Splendor. Featuring commentary peppered with interesting historical snippets, the sponsored content has achieved high engagement and viewership since launch. Despite having no review of the content prior to it going live, Carnival Cruise Line shared the completed video with their sizable social media following.
Queen Anne - Shipyard Tour
In 2023 as Queen Anne neared completion, Cunard engaged us to support launching the ship with a special shipyard tour. After conducting extensive planning support, Chris travelled to the shipyard in Venice. There, he worked with Cunard, providing an opening historical address at a special dinner, attended by travel agents and international media. The following day, Chris hosted groups onboard the ship, conducting a thorough guided tour of the vessel.
P&O Cruises Australia 90th Anniversary
When P&O Cruises celebrated 90 years of cruising from Australia, they turned to us to support a series of celebratory events across the country. Delving into the archives to research P&O's history, our work included preparing speeches, designing fact sheets and supporting the creation of media releases. In Brisbane, Fremantle and Sydney, Chris was engaged as a media spokesperson, fielding questions from Australian media to add considerable PR value.
Cunard & SeaCity Floating Exhibition
In 2019 we worked on a project with Cunard and SeaCity Museum to bring a travelling exhibition on board Queen Mary 2. This was to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Cunard transatlantic voyages from Southampton. As a part of this project, we worked with the museum curator to identify and select items of historic interest for the exhibition. We wrote the exhibition description cards, developed the mid-day historical speeches that the Captain presented and supported with media releases and public relations. Chris also sailed aboard as a guest speaker.
Suite Naming, Queen Anne
Cunard's latest ship, Queen Anne, entered service in 2024. While the ship was in its early stages, Cunard approached us to work with them on the naming of the top suites on board. After a period of consultation, it was decided to name the suites after waterways with a special significance to the Cunard Line, thus we came up with the names Mersey, Clyde, Hudson, Solent, Halifax and Boston. In addition to suggesting the names of the suites we provided historical context.
Live History Presentations
Beginning in 2008 onboard QE2, live history presentations are one of the highlights of our work. With Chris as presenter, leveraging our storytelling and research skills, the maritime history lectures are both entertaining and informative. Featuring incredible historic imagery as well as photos from our extensive time at sea, the performances regularly attract full house crowds. One of the greatest compliments is when someone tells us: 'I never knew how fascinating this topic is.'
King of Eclipse, Pacific Explorer
A total solar eclipse was visible from Exmouth, Western Australia on 20 April 2023. To take advantage of this incredible experience, P&O Cruises arranged a sailing aboard Pacific Explorer to be in Exmouth on the day of the eclipse. The voyage was themed around astronomy and the eclipse, with multiple experts travelling onboard and giving presentations. We travelled as media representatives on this cruise.
QE2 50th Anniversary Celebration
In 2017 Cunard celebrated 50 years since the launch of their iconic QE2, with a Mediterranean voyage on board Queen Elizabeth. As part of the celebrations, we travelled on board the ship, with Chris presenting maritime history lectures. Behind the scenes we also wrote the copy for the commemorative menus and daily programmes, created a trivia quiz, and mid-day historic speeches for the Captain to present onboard. After the voyage, we participated in the filming of a special QE2 documentary programme by the UK's Channel 5. This included Chris being interviewed as a subject matter expert at SeaCity Museum.
